Friday the 13th is an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films, a television show, novels, comic books, video games, and tie‑in merchandise, as of 2017. The franchise mainly focuses on the fictional character Jason Voorhees, who drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff. Decades later, the lake is rumored to be "cursed" and is the setting for a series of mass murders. Jason is featured in all of the films, as either the killer or the motivation for the killings.
For 35 years now, the Friday the 13th horror movie franchise has gone through the perfunctory cycle of having masked killer Jason Voorhees hack and slash his way through a fresh group of sex-starved teens, getting himself killed, only to be inexplicably resurrected for another round. However, according to a producer for the upcoming next rendition of the franchise, we should expect a more in-depth explanation regarding WHAT Jason exactly is and WHY he seems to defy every corporeal and metaphysical rule that science has discerned about life so that he keeps coming back.
